Credit card fraudsters getting more creative, says expert
Credit card criminals are becoming more creative in their endeavours to fraudulently obtain money, an expert in the financial industry suggested today.
Kerry D'Souza of solutions business CPP commented after it revealed new research that discovered 26 per cent of Brits have fallen victim to credit card fraudsters.
It was also found that 21 per cent of cases were due to a card being cloned from a chip and pin reader or cashpoint.
Ms D'Souza said this was evidence of criminals turning to "more desperate measures" due to the ongoing economic slowdown and added that online fraud was another area where illegal activity had increased over the last year.
She explained that it is both domestic and international thieves carrying out these crimes.
"They tend to be based overseas and are using credit cards based in the UK. It is obviously a lot easier for overseas gangs to use cards online on UK websites," the expert stated.
